Njala and Mama Kol “helping” in the cutting garden. Spring has sprung.

8 Apil, 2012 ~ Njala takes Puppy Group III with handler Chris Nelson in Puppy Group at INT Show #3. (Chris is over the moon as this was his first group placement handling any breed. Congratulations, Chris!)

8 April, 2012 ~ Njala takes Best Puppy BBE and becomes International/National Jungsten (Puppy) Champion. Breeder/Owner/Handler Donna.

Special Note: We were sorry Chris couldn’t finish Njala but his parents insisted he attend Easter dinner. Imagine that! He did, however, complete three of her legs. So, he did the majority of the work and we are so grateful to him. Chris and Njala now attend weekly handling lessons together and she is quite smitten with him. I am “chopped liver” when Chris walks into the room.  I’m still not sure I like it when people call me his mother, however. I would be proud to be his mother but am in complete denial about that possibility in terms of my age. What a wonderful young man.

Njala’s first AKC Best of Winners at 7 months. Chris Nelson handling. Njala’s first AKC CH point.

Njala passed her herding instinct test with flying colors. See below. We are very proud of our girl. To see more pics, please visit the herding page. NeeNee’s pics are on page three of the slide show. What a little rock star. She and brother Bub are now taking lessons from Maggie McClure.

Njala had a great time with the sheep and did a fabulous job. 7 months.

28 March, 2012 ~ Njala passed her herding instinct test with flying colors. We are very proud of our girl. To see pics, please visit the herding page. NeeNee’s pics are on page three of the slide show. What a little rock star.

From the 2011 Eyjahunda Peace Litter, Friðsæla Njála means Peaceful Njala . Njála is pronounced “Knee-owl-ya”. We call her NeeNee or Cheebie. Our dear friend, Soley Ragnarsdottir, suggested that we name her after the famous Icelandic Saga Burnt Njál. In the saga, Njál’s dog Samur saves his life by warning him of the approach of Njál’s enemies. It is a fitting name as Njála is the 9th generation of Donna’s first ISD, Perla [b. 1972, Iceland, died 1984 in Camarillo, CA. USA]. Perla played a profound role in the childhood and teenage years of Donna’s life. You can read more about Perla on her page.

Tailgaiting at the show: Njála, Bubbie & Kol

Born on Dragonfly Farm on 7.20.11, Njála is very busy growing up, herding chickens and running circles around her half brother Bubbie. She is very smart and already demonstrating herding instinct. visit Kol’s 2011 Litter Page to see Njala’s puppy pics. Njala is an extremely sweet pup and a wonderful addition to our pack.

2011 CERF: Normal – No inherited eye disease found CERF # IS-359000

2012 CERF: Normal – No inherited eye disease found CERF # IS-359000

Structure Evaluated by Pat Hastings: Wonderful Short Loin, Nice Bone, Great Temperament, Very Good Tail Set, Full Dentition, Good Bite. Overall Score: Above Show Average

Temperament Tested – Excellent Temperament. Njála is a joyful puppy who loves every person and dog she meets. She is as smart as her mother which sometimes poses a (fun) problem for us. As Guðrún Ragnars Guðjohnsen is fond of saying, “One must be as smart as the dog … .”

Njala’s dam, Kolperla, was Donna’s show dog until her retirement in 2010. Kol and Donna enjoyed conformation showing a great deal and found wonderful success in the ring. Kol finished her show career as the #1 ISD for 2010 in the AKC, the Eukanuba National ISD Champion and was the first ISD to become an AKC Grand Champion.

Eyjahunda Icelandic Sheepdogs is an AKC Registered Kennel. We follow ISIC, ISAA & AKC Breeding Recomendations. We are proud members of the Icelandic Kennel Club HRFI and the ISD Breed Clubs in Iceland, the USA (ISAA) Sweden & Denmark.
