Feb 28, 2010 - I went for a visit to see Roskur and and his pack. I found a beautiful young
male with spectacular double, low dews, full dentition, beautiful dark eyes and an amazing temperament. He is with a
lovely family and has three "sisters" to boss him around.
|
|
| Just like Daddy Breki and Mama Kol. This boy loves to play ball. |

|
|
| Roskur is a snuggler and that is his best "love face". What a treat to see him again. |
On February 13, 2010, I met Roki and his family at a park and we
really enjoyed seeing each other. He is a beautiful young male with full dentition, nice dark eyes, spectacular coat and a
temperament to die for. He played with our new puppy Thorri and fun was had by all.

Litter Update: Winter 2009
Our pups are 17 months now (October) and continue to grow
up.The ISD matures very slowly and we are enjoying letting them be pups while, at the same time, we can't wait to
see them at two and three years old. All four pups passed their puppy CERF and one year old CERF test with flying colors.
Healthy and happy, all have beautiful temperaments and live in loving homes. We couldn't ask for more.

Our three pups that were evaluated as show quality
have validated the evaluation and at nine months, all three were shown under international and U.S. judges and did very well.
Bragi and Dagny took BOB Puppy twice and each puppy took Best Bred By as well. That was a real treat for me to show our first
generation of Eyjahunda Puppies. Roki, our resident therapy dog & his family joined Roskur & Dagny's families,
Kol, Breki and several other ISD families for a fun evening at the campground. We missed Bragi's family but they graciously
flew him up for the show/reunion and were thrilled with his success.
The litter is turning out beautifully.
As noted above, Dagny completed her AKC Herding Interest test and AKC Canine Good Citizen Test in April of 2009 and Bragi
passed his Canine Good Citizen test, both earning titles for their successes. Roskur completed Obedience Training in September
of 2008.
In April, Ian took Bragi to his class for "Show and Tell" and "Bry" was a big hit
with the kids. Our favorite thank you note from one of the kids reads, "Dear Bry, I enjoyed having you come visit us
so much. You're really cute ... p.s. You should try not to bark so much at the bus in the morning." Bry walks Ian
to the bus stop every morning and is quite loud in his protest when Ian boards the bus. I witnessed this ritual when visiting
the family and was quite taken with the rich bond between Bragi and his kids. The same is true of all the pups and their families.
The temperaments of this litter are wonderful. We have followed the development of the pups closely and they clearly
got the best of mom and daddy Breki.
Each family has agreed to CERF test the puppies (at our expense) at one year
of age as a follow up to their puppy CERF tests. Dagny has completed her test and received her second CERF number indicating
she passed the test and has healthy eyes. The others are scheduled for CERF tests in the near future.
We recently
learned that Breki carries the extremely rare O line of the Iceland Dog according to the Peter Oliehoek study, Inbreeding,
Effective Population Size, Mean, Kinship and Cluster Analysis in the Icelandic Sheepdog as a Small Population. We suspected
this, but it was recently confirmed when the president of the breeding committee for the FCI Islandsk Farehund (Icelandic
Sheepdog) club in Denmark visited our home in April of 2008. This means that the important line is carried in the pups as
well as the M (also from Breki) and B & J lines from mama Kol. It will be exciting to see if the puppies develop into
good examples of the Iceland Dog compared to the standard. We hope this comes to fruition so that these important lines can
be continued in our breeding program. So far, so good!

On March 2, 2008, CH Pineridge Kolperla, TDI, CGC was bred to CH
Hnúks Breki, CGC. Breki
is an FCI dog, imported from Iceland, bred by Hörður Þorsteinsson and Stina Gunnarsdóttir of
Hnúks Kennel. He is free of eye disease
as are his parents. His PennHip scores are .44/.44. Breki has a correct short double red and white coat. His best feature
is his exceptional temperament. Breki is a sweet, loving guy, athletic and happy. He enjoys any activity that involves a ball.
Breki was a UKC Top Ten Dog in 2007. He is a member of the rare M1/M2 line and we are happy to help preserve
this line.
Here is our handsome daddy.
|
|
| Daddy CH Hnuks Breki, CGC |
Four healthy puppies, three dogs and one bitch, were born on May
4th. On day 16, we completed the "Super Dog" program (www.breedingbetterdogs.com), an early neurological stimulation program that is proven to have important and lasting effects on puppies.
The litter will be evaluated by AKC Judge Pat Hastings at eight weeks and placements will be made at that time. The puppies
will be CERF tested that same day.
We believe, at this time (31 days) that Dagny is a gold/yellow and the
boys are chinchillas. Overall color is determined by the color found behind the ears. We also believe that the males will
be long haired and Dagny will be short haired. As you can see, the markings and coat length are changing rapidly on each.
Colors and markings on the ISD change up to two years of age.
The eyes are darkening and will be black per the
standard. Both Sæli & Röskur have exceptional dewclaws that are staying down on the ground. Bragi has
good strong dews that are moving up his leg as he grows (typical). Dagny has a single dew claw on one side and double
on the other side. Toenails have been trimmed three times already and they all do very well with that.
Enjoy
the pictures & weekly updates.

August
26, 2008 “Just a quick email to let you know what a “rock star” (we call him our little rock star) Roskur
was at the training last night. He is the best in class, and the trainer used him as an example several times. She had to
distract Roskur (again) and have Dan quietly slip away from the area, and then call him. Being the super star that he is,
he came running the first call. He is always at our side, sees all the other dogs being called to their owners and then straight
to us he always comes and sits down. He is so far advanced for the class so the trainer
has alternative exercises for us to do with him while the others are trying to keep their pup’s in line or to even sit.
I couldn’t be more proud!!!!! All the extra work that you put into the litter is more and more evident every day ...
Also, we had company over … and they all
commented on how well behaved Roskur was, but also that all our girls were following his lead! He stayed with Kim (vet) and
Nebbi on Saturday, she brought him home around 10:30 pm and we were home shortly after, it was so cute, she left a note that
said he was an ANGEL!! I am not surprised, but how cool, to be in a strange place without us for hours. Thank you again for such an awesome and cuddly little sweetheart!! He is the BEST, BEST EVER!!
Oh, he has an astonishing ability to climb,
I was so tired I was taking a nap yesterday and … Roskur scaled the comforter, up to the top of the bed I would say
is at least three to four feet high and was all over my face licking and nuzzling me. … he is so sweet!!”

August
27, 2008 “Thank you for the pictorial pedigree picture. What a beautiful family tree. We proudly display it on our refrigerator. Life with Roki is a blast. We adore him and he seems to feel the same
way about us. I love the way his whole body wiggles when one of us comes home; the warmest greeting imaginable. He is such
a joyful and loving spirit. He puts smiles on people's faces everyday. We take him almost everywhere with us and often
have to tie his leash up outside of a store or cafe. When we come out, he has a circle of admiring people around him. By the
way I always have one of the girls keep an eye on him when he is tied up outside. He trusts everyone but I don't. … His body is strong and well formed. Also we finished our first 6 week
training. On about the 4th week the trainer said he's ready to move on to the next level. He knows all the commands. He
doesn't always want to do them but he knows them. Roki is extremely passionate and exuberant about other dogs …
He changes everyday. I love watching him grow. Thank you again for the incredible
beginning that you gave him. I feel very grateful to you and grateful to have him.”
WEEK EIGHT
The litter was taken to AKC Judge Pat Hastings for evaluation of conformation, type, match to the standard and temperament. We
came away with three breeding/show pups and one pup who, with correct training, will make a terrific therapy dog. What a great
day! Typically, there is one show/breeding quality dog in any litter, so we are thrilled with our evaluations. On that same
day, the pups were CERF tested and all passed with flying colors. Kol and Rassie were also CERF tested that day and passed
as well. So, the day could not have been better. Grandma JL came with family in-tow to observe the evaluations and was in
awe of Judge Hastings' ability to show the lay person exactly where strengths and faults were in the pups. Each family
is presented with that information so they know exactly what to look for in breeding matches if that is what they choose to
do once health tests are completed at age two. Our "pet" puppy missed the show/breeding averatge by 1/2 a point
so he will be neutered and go to work as a therapy dog, a perfect job for him. Like Pat Hastings, we believe that only
good examples of the breed, as determined by an impartial evaluator, should be used as breeding dogs. Rassie was also evaluated
by Pat on that day and you can read about her results on her page. We are so proud of this litter that Breki and Kol produced
and believe we have accomplished our goals of producing pups with good conformation, temperament, type, health and function.
Pat was kind enough to "stack" our little pack up so we could get some good
pictures of them. Here they are in their 8 week old glory.

| At one of the pit stops, we met friends Tony and Sharon who gave the pups some love. |
WEEK
SEVEN June 23rd- The pups are learning many new things. Today, after the pool party, they learned
to come and sit. They know their names and are smart little ones. All of them are very sweet and playful. The pups "now
have fully functioning brains and are capable of learning anything, keeping in account their short attention spans. Learning
at this age is permanent." [Behavioral Development of Puppies by Kathryn Lanam]

On
June 7th, some of the families that have reserved pups came for a visit. Everyone had a great time and one "mom"
even flew in from another state for the visit. As you can see from the last few shots, after everyone left, the pack crashed.

On June 5th, everyone went
to the vet and got a clean bill of health. She checked eyes, ears, teeth, bites, hearts and lungs. All the boys have their
"parts" and the vet said they are the "picture of health", an "excellent litter".

| All played out - week four |
WEEK FOUR
This is the "second awareness/identification week".
During this week, play behavior has become more sophisticated and includes chasing and growling. The litter is eating real
food well and is in the process of weaning. They are using the pee-pee pads like champs, crawling through tunnels and hanging
out in the crate. They are a happy little bunch and are developing strength, agility and coordination.
Each pup
is now getting a great deal of individual time. They are separated from each other for increasingly longer periods of time
(although short) to teach the pup independence, prevent separation anxiety and encourage bonding and acceptance of humans.
This gang is fully accepting of humans already and the best part of my day is spent in the play pen with pups crawling all
over me. That can't be beat.
They are handled and cuddled a lot and continue to hang out with Kol when she
is in the play pen with them. They are on a schedule already and pass out at 9 p.m. Sadly, they are back up at 5:30 a.m. (as
of today) and we are trying to negotiate a later sleep time with them. :-)
Three of the families who are on the
pup list will visit this weekend for the first time and we have our first vet appointment this afternoon. We could not be
happier with the progress they are making. Did I mention that teeth are in? Life is good!

Week Three
The pup's diet was supplemented beginning the
27th. They took to the mash like little champs. They spend days in a 10' x 4 ' enclosure that allows them to
romp and play like wild cats. They are vocalizing and a joy to watch. The days pass quickly for us as we sit inside
the little "run" with them and play puppy games.
Let sleeping dogs lie.
Este es la vida!
A small crate has been added to the pen and is part of the normal play
activities. Also in the pen are many toys and textures and surfaces. However, Mama Kol still makes the best jungle
gym ever.

box. The puppies are at the first day of "usable vision (days 18-21), the initial emergence of teeth, and the development
of hearing - first evidenced by the startle response - although still unable to locate the source of the sound". The
pups can move backwards as well as forward and have begun to walk instead of crawl. Tail wagging has started and they are
vocalizing. They are showing interest in their littermates and we have increased individual attention. They will be moved
to the central part of the house on Friday. This is called the 'transitional period'. (Another Piece of the Puzzle:

Kol whelped four healthy pups in the afternoon of May 4th.
There are three dogs and one bitch puppy. All are healthy and happy, growing quickly. Kol is a wonderful mother, typical
of the breed.
While we planned for Kol to have the pups in the modern way,
she had other designs. This is one of two dens she dug. In the picture below, Rassie is putting some finishing touches on
the second den. Pretty good work!
